Workshop Report

Last Update: 9/12/05

On the 7th December, the HIVE and the Departments of Computer Science and History hosted an international one day workshop entitled “Heritage presentation and preservation – a digital perspective”. The training programme included a number of talks relating to virtual reality, web based resources, presentation graphics, digital preservation and multimedia teaching tools.

Invited speakers included Daniel Pletinckx (ENAME centre, Belgium), Dr William Kilbride (ADS York), Pierre Drap (CNRS Marseille), Dr Sandy Winterbottom (University of Stirling) and Mark Faulkner (zabanda media Ltd). Internal speakers included Dr Paul Chapman and James Ward (Computer Science) and Peter Halkon (History). The event was sponsored by EPOCH and the Higher Education Academy.

“This workshop has brought together computer scientists, archaeologists, artists and numerous other disciplines. This combination of subjects produced some fascinating discussions throughout the day and has already resulted in new collaborations for research projects. The positive feedback from the workshop means it’s very likely that we’ll turn this into an annual event”.

Dr Paul Chapman,
Programme Chairman.
