Background
After completing a degree in Physics at the University of Warwick
I found that my BSc wasn’t taking me where I wanted to go.
I applied to the University of Hull to a Masters degree in Computer
Graphics and Virtual Environments. After gaining a distinction and
a taste for computer graphics I returned to the department to take
up a doctorate as part of the Simulation and Visualization group.
Other Interests
When I’m not working I’m involved in training, playing
and coaching with the local collegiate and senior American Football
teams. I have played American Football at a regional level for
the Northern Cougars All Star team, and also at a national level
for the Great Britain Bulldogs, who played other national teams
in the UK, and also traveled to America to play a NCAA division
three college at Menlo.
Research Interests
My research is primarily based around efficient and accurate rendering
of very large point datasets gained from scanning buildings. Point
rendering has become more popular over recent years for rendering
complex, geometrically rich shapes. This is partially due to the
availability of accurate and detailed point based datasets collected
from real objects using laser scanners. Although scanners can be
used to collect datasets of architecture it is often inefficient
to render large parts of building with points. My research is based
around finding hybrid methods that combine the advantages of point
rendering for geometrically rich objects with the advantages of
polygonal rendering for largely planar surfaces.
